Water is fundamental in our lives.
Our body is composed of 60% water!

But it is also the element most difficult to handle in case of difficulty swallowing.
  • 3
That comes to groovy cup, an innovative tool that allows the proper watering of people with dysphagia.

Groovy cup

The Groovy Cup is a simple yet efficient resource designed specifically for the dysphagic person regardless of age.

It allows correct head and neck posture to safeguard the airway passages whilst drinking. The characteristic transparency of the material, of which it is made, permits careful observation of lip and tongue movements on the part of the person evaluating swallowing aspects as a whole (it is thus important for speech therapists and medical doctors).

Its transparency also makes it a suitable household object for children (it is unbreakable and can be held easily) and adults who are, often, more reticent in using coloured plastic for daily drinking.

The peculiarity of its facet makes it easily held, both by the carer offering the liquid, putting it directly to the user's lips, as well as by those using it autonomously.

It represents an innovative instrument for evaluation purposes.

Technical Characteristics

Made of Thermoplastic ISO 4894-SAN 2.

Available in three versions:

  • Small: Ø 46mm - H 55mm - can contain up to 20cc of liquid. Ideal for an initial approach to using a cup, beginning from 6 months for a child. Useful for evaluation and rehabilitation purposes.
  • Middle: Ø 72mm - H 70mm - can contain up to 70cc of liquid. Ideal for a slightly older child starting from 12 - 18 months up to adulthood. Useful for evaluation, rehabilitation and ability-orientated purposes as well as daily use.
  • Large: Ø 89mm - H 100mm - can contain up to 150cc of liquid. Ideal for adults. Useful for rehabilitation purposes and daily use.
  • Dishwasher safe (Maximun temperature 80ºC )
    Usable in a microwave oven

How to use it

The person drinking tilts his head forward. The lips touch the higher rim of the cup which is then lifted facilitating the liquid coming into contact with the mouth without modifying the position of the head. The liquid can be drunk up to the last drop without needing to raise one's head, as normally occurs with common cups.

Instrument for evaluation

The transparency of the material used, together with its unbreakable qualities, make this object a fundamental information aid by which tongue and lip movements can be monitored. It is indispensable in showing the user's ability, as well as being used for rehabilitation purposes - two important points which are added to the well-known semiotics of the dysphagic patient.
